TRAVEL INSURANCE PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS NEED TO BE DECLARED!
Going on holiday should be enjoyable, relaxing and  trouble free.  However a holiday of a lifetime can go horribly wrong if you are not properly advised when taking out travel insurance.    Recently a chap taking a holiday to Spain took out travel insurance online.  He, had heart surgery to fit a microvalve in 2005 and a pacemaker fitted in 2012.  His family say he had been given the all-clear to fly at a hospital appointment – but may have not understood the insurance form or filled it out wrongly.  Whilst on holiday experienced a heart attack and died.  His insurance company declined the claim.
His insurance company, StaySure, confirmed he did not declare his heart condition or pacemaker when he bought the policy
"As with all insurance policies, specifically travel, all health conditions must be declared at the point of purchase to ensure the customer has specific cover for their individual needs.
For any travel insurance it is absolutely vital that customers disclose their medical history and any pre-existing conditions they have, sadly, in this case, the client did not declare the conditions and therefore the nsurers declined the claim because the cause of his death was directly connected to a pre-existing health condition which was not declared and covered on his policy.
"We cannot stress enough how important it is to ensure all pre-existing medical conditions are declared correctly when taking out an insurance policy to avoid distressing situations if the worst does happen.”  If in doubt please ask for advice.  Our travel insurance companies we use do cover many pre-existing medical conditions but it is always best to be really clear on what is covered and what isnt.

CANCELLATION OF POLICIES
Many clients do not understand the need to provide documentation when cancelling policies due to sale.   It is law in Spain and the UK that if you own a vehicle that it has to be insured, even if the cover is the basic 3rd party liability cover.  (not applicable if a UK vehicle is registered as SORN).   In the event of cancellation of an existing policy we have to prove to the relevant authorities, (DGS in Spain or equivalent UK DVLA) that the car has changed ownership, otherwise the insurer will still be liable for any claim against the vehicle.  This is also to guarantee that a vehicle has actually changed ownership.  You wouldn’t believe the amount of clients who want to insure cars that do not belong to them, or if they sell their car do not follow the transfer procedure through.  Many clients have been fined, taken to court and worse as the car that they previously owned, still shows them as the legal owner in Trafico and as such are still liable for any fines or claims.
We have also experienced claims from clients who have sold their insurance with the vehicle, but not informed us of any change and then disappeared off the face of the earth.   However there are new laws coming into force where both the DVLA and Trafico have joined forces to crack down on unpaid fines and claims.  So for those who believe they are safe back in the UK, the authorities may catch up with them in the end.
This really is just to explain that when we ask for specific documents to enable us to cancel a policy, we are not being difficult, we have to provide legal paperwork to the insurer.  For Spanish registered vehicles we need a Provisional Justificante (in the new owners name) and for a UK plated vehicle a copy of the log book completed with both the owner and purchasers details.
